Brief

Microsoft wanted to highlight the launch of the new Surface in Breakpoint, Bluebeam’s digital magazine. The challenge was turning a highly technical engineering story into a narrative that would resonate with artists, architects, and builders.

Idea

Introduce a continuous hand-drawn line that guides readers through the article, weaving through spreads and culminating in the Surface’s spring mechanics. The line becomes a metaphor for creativity flowing from technology.

Execution

On-site photography at Microsoft HQ in Seattle.

Editorial + product photography integrated into layouts.

Collaboration with lead copywriter to sync story and visuals.

Custom illustration + design system unifying spreads.

Connecting the article with a a continuous hand drawn line that takes you to the final product shot.

Results

Delivered an editorial feature that softened Microsoft’s technical story into an artistic, narrative-driven piece.

Helped position Surface as a tool for creators, not just engineers.

Boosted Breakpoint’s engagement and elevated the magazine as a brand storytelling platform.
