Brief

Smosh Summer Games had not aired since 2019. Fans had been asking for its return for years, but with ownership changes and management shifts, bringing it back had to feel special. Relaunching in 2025 meant balancing nostalgia with a fresh creative identity that would resonate with today’s audience.


As Design Director, I led a team of designers and motion artists to reimagine the tentpole’s look and feel. I created the overall brand identity, developed new mascots and team uniforms, and established a design system that spanned social, live show visuals, merch, and YouTube branding. My strategic goal was to reintroduce Summer Games as Smosh’s biggest tentpole, while keeping fans engaged across multiple episodes with evolving creative.

Results

⮑ Successfully reintroduced Summer Games after six years, making it Smosh’s most-watched 2025 tentpole.


Boosted engagement across YouTube and social compared to average uploads, with teaser content sparking fan-created spin-offs.


Event merch tied to team mascots became a top seller, with the “Detention Degenerates” shirt outperforming expectations.


Fans praised the surprise third team and evolving narrative devices (like uniform switch-ups) as fresh storytelling that honored the legacy but delivered something new.
